A Bethesda Twitter account has stated that Starfield's physical editions will not include a disc - although this message has now been removed.

The tweet, posted by @BethesdaSupport earlier today, stated that "all physical editions include a code for the chosen platform" and that there would be "no physical discs".

The message has since been deleted, but is still available to view via Wayback Machine. A screenshot has also been provided below.

While Bethesda has yet to comment on the now-removed message, the issue has sparked debate among fans over the merits of still having a copy of the game on physical media.

In the meantime, fans have dug up a tweet from Bethesda's official Twitter account for Spain, dated 13th June, which states the opposite - that the game's standard version does have a disc, while the Constellation Edition has a code engraved on a collector's item.

We've contacted Bethesda for clarification on what the situation is with copies here, and will update when we hear back.

Microsoft's decision to keep Bethesda's games exclusive is "powerful evidence" against its Activision Blizzard takeover bid, US antitrust agency the Federal Trade Commission has said.

Earlier this month, the FTC succeeded in getting a temporary ban placed on Microsoft's $68.7bn Activision Blizzard buyout bid. Now, ahead of an upcoming hearing regarding the agency's request for a preliminary injunction, the FTC has submitted further documentation on the matter.
